Dana White was in awe of the “next-level silly” transfer by Merab Dvalishvili to submit himself getting stitched up across the eye lower than three weeks out from his UFC 306 title combat with Sean O’Malley.
Though Dvalishvili (17-4 MMA, 10-2 UFC) and his crew assured it was no large deal, White was strongly adamant that it was a silly transfer for the upcoming bantamweight title challenger to put out a goal for O’Malley (18-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) going into the Sept. 14 headliner of Noche UFC, which takes place at Sphere in Las Vegas and airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.
White recognized this as a UFC downside. He credited boxing for doing a greater job of retaining accidents and coaching points in-house, and criticized primarily his total roster – and most particularly Dvalishvili – after the footage created a short scare concerning the combat being off.
Was the UFC CEO on level together with his frustrations, or did he go too far in publicly scolding Dvalishvili?
