Jack Draper makes Japan Open quarterfinal, beats No. 2 seed

British No. 1 and U.S. Open semifinalist Jack Draper has secured a spot within the Japan Open quarterfinals following a straight-set victory to No. 2 seed Hubert Hurkacz.

Whereas the 22-year-old Draper and Hurkacz have been evenly matched on aces and winners, it was the Polish participant’s 30 unforced errors, to Draper’s 20, that proved expensive. Draper took the win 6-2, 6-4.

This victory marked Draper’s third win in opposition to a top-10 ranked opponent this season.

Prime-seeded Taylor Fritz and third-seeded Casper Ruud have additionally been eradicated from the match.

Draper will now face the winner of the match between Brandon Nakashima and Ugo Humbert within the quarterfinals.
